Eat, Sleep, Speak:
Why What We Eat & How We Sleep Rules What We Say
Picture this: It's 6pm, and you have a major class presentation tomorrow. You're hangry and wishing you could just crash since you've been awake since 5:30am and already had a full day of classes, sports practice and fine art practice. But sleep is not in the cards of your immediate future. You still have hours of homework to complete, that presentation to fine tune, and a desperate need of a shower. Dad's working late and mom has a headache. Looks like you're on your own for dinner. A big bowl of buttery popcorn & M&M's with a side of sugary cereal it is.Now picture this: It's 6pm, and you have a major class presentation tomorrow. You're hangry and understand you must crash soon since you've been awake since 5:30am and already had a full day of classes, sports practice and fine art practice. You planned ahead all week to get in front of your homework grind knowing you'd have that presentation to fine tune tonight, as well as a desperate need of a shower. Dad's working late and mom has a headache. Looks like you're on your own for dinner. A nut butter & honey sandwich with a fresh fruit smoothie it is.
It's easy to imagine which scenario would lend itself to the best possible presentation the next day, but did you realize your food choices and sleep habits truly do have a direct impact on what you say, even how you say what you say? Impacts such as word recall and annunciation are primary culprits of sleep deprivation & lack of proper nutrition.
Have you ever been speaking and couldn't remember a certain word or a complete thought you wanted to say? Or maybe you weren't having any recall issues, but definitely found yourself stumbling over your words. These are things we all deal with from time to time. The good news is they can be prevented! Who really wants to look like they don't have a clue as to what they're talking about, especially in front of an audience?
Join KHS staff, students and community members on the upcoming Must-Have Monthly webinar on Monday, April 12th at 8pm to learn more about how you can stay on top of your talking game!
In the meantime, check out these books!
